hris Beeney On behalf of me, my sister and my three daughters I would like to express our condolences. We all have so many fond memories of playing in the band. My three children picked up an instrument at young age under Georges instruction and played throughout high school. I recall the twins sometimes carried the banner in parades while their older sister and I marched behind. He was such a pillar of the community providing direction and motivation to so many people of all ages. I was just listening to the radio when Elgar’s Nimrod from Enigma Variations was played - another of many moving pieces that remind me of all those performances over the years. George was so dedicated and organized. We will certainly miss him.

George's selfless dedication to the Acton Citizens Band and Trinity United Church for so many years showed how much he cared about his community and about sharing his gift of music. The Halton Hills Concert Band would like to express its deepest sympathy to George's family and the Acton community on their loss and hope that they will find comfort in enduring memories.

Charles George Elliot was my (great) uncle. He was, and always will be, a significant role model for me. His accomplishments were vast, whether contributing to the community of Acton through his musical and mentorship talents, or maintaining his fitness by skiing, skating, and sailing. His career in academia was distinguished, a career that I have chosen for myself. His interest in science, history, and archaeology inspired my own. He was a scholar in the truest sense, with an inquisitive and enthusiastic mind. He was also different. His path was his own. Not many people have a laboratory, fitness pool, and reconstructed pipe organ in their home. George did, and for him it was not out of the ordinary. As a child, sometime between exploring his old Victorian home, and conducting biochemistry experiments in his basement, I became fascinated by a man who was different. In many ways he inspired me to be different, to follow my own path, regardless of its eccentricities. I spent many afternoons with George over the past several years while I helped to clean and organize his family’s ancestral home. We talked at length about life, travel, music, history, careers, and a suite of other topics that George seemed to be endlessly knowledgeable about. I will take solace in the time that we spent together, and the memories that we shared. I will miss his presence tremendously. - J
